Beam‐Steering Metadevices for Intelligent Optical Wireless‐Broadcasting Communications

High-performance beam-steering devices play a crucial role for optical wireless communication (OWC), which can meet the demand increasing number of mobile and emerging high-speed multimedia applications. Conventional components like spatial light modulator digital micromirror device are limited to realize small steering angle (typ. several degrees), thus dramatically limits scope OWC. Herein, metadevice utilizing an ultracompact metasurface assisted with is presented, significantly increase without at cost complicated setup conventionally used magnifier. Based on actively tunable metadevice, intelligent bidirectional broadcasting system designed experimentally demonstrated, exhibits nine areas covering large field-of-view 20° × 20°, user-defined dynamic ability in each area, user has data rate 10 Gbps both upstream downstream transmission. The proposed metadevices requires high-performance low-cost practical purpose, under currently available technical architectures.
